Volkswagen literally means “people’s car”.
It started with the idea of “cars for the masses”. The main requirements were as follows: create an affordable car that was able to transport two adults and three children at speeds of 62 mph.
Porshe was chosen to carry out this project supported by the German government.
The program was called Volkswagen.
