Today we’ll talk about local groceries. You, guys, will be our last outpost, you will be closed last. But at this stage you have to compete with supermarkets.
What to do?
There are a couple of useful ideas:
- Start taking internet or phone orders. Customer calls you (or go to the very simple website even without payment option), make an order and then just come and pick it up. Don’t have to wait, communicate with others, just pay and go.
- Local same-day delivery. It may take several days for the supermarket to deliver the customer’s order. Your order will be ready and deliver same day.
- Be projective. Talk to your local customers – you know many of them personally. Try to understand what and when they need and be ready to provide fresh produce.
- Connect with farmers to have every day fresh products: milk, meat, fruit and vegetables. Become a real friend to your local community. In tough times people trust their friends more.
